Sello holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master's degree in Business
Leadership and several IT-related qualifications. He has extensive experience as
an IT executive having most recently been appointed the CIO for the Department of Home
Affairs for almost six years. During this period, Sello overhauled the
Department's back-end, aiding its remarkable turnaround both in performance and
reputation. Notable successes were his collaboration with the banking industry
in developing an online fingerprint verification system, helping the industry
drastically reduce the incidence of fraudulent bank accounts.
He also led the development, piloting and ultimate launch of the new South
African Smart ID card. It is through this impressive track record that Sello was
named as the Visionary CIO for 2012 by the Computer Society of SA, Gartner, IT
Web and GIBS. Sello has also worked at the Department of Health, SITA (State
Information Technology Agency) as well as at Sasol in various IT roles.
This position is critical in ensuring that the IT division is strategically
aligned to sustainably support the organisation. Sello was appointed Chief
Information officer for Airports Company South Africa on 1 October 2014.
