O.R. Tambo International Airport's SED programme aims to:
Create a sense of responsibility and accountability, as part of an organisation operating within a bigger system (its environment)
Provide assistance to members of the airport's neighbouring communities
Develop meaningful relationships with relevant welfare and development organisations
Support worthwhile organisations and show measurable results in the short, medium and long term
Encourage a spirit of community and participation amongst O.R. Tambo International Airport staff

Early Childhood Development
Mainly in Primary and Secondary Schools
Support to Day Care Centres
Investment in the development and training of women and youth training
Protecting and enhancing the environment against climate change and energy
3. Mobility and Disability
We foster mobility and alleviate disability through wheelchair donations.
We also contribute to ad hoc welfare and SED requests (at the discretion of the General Manager and in consultation with the SED Committee. All requests are reviewed in line with the airport's SED focus areas).

Sunshine Association for the Disabled

|Sponsorship towards specialist services (e.g. physiotherapy) to help the children's mobility.|
Khensani Day Care - Alexandra
85 crèche kids
|A wall was built around the crèche to create a safe environment for the children while at school.|
Siyaphumelela Youth Development Initiative -Tembisa
|56 learners||O.R. Tambo International Airport provided disadvantaged learners with school uniforms|
Tswelopele Secondary School - Tembisa
|507 learners in Grades 10 -12||A new, equipped science laboratory was handed over to the school to enhance the learners' science understanding and experience.|
|Winter Warmer Campaign 2013||1700|
This is an annual initiative to donated of school shoes to needy children ahead of winter. More than 1000 pairs of shoes have been donated.
The airport also helps surrounding communities with blankets and hot water bottles and teach them fire preventive measures.

This initiative was launched in 2014 and includes an awards ceremony for Grade 12 learners and teachers to encourage academic excellence within Ekurhuleni.
Grade 1 learners are given stationery packs with the necessary essential to prepare them for the academic year.

This was a partnership with Ster-Kinekor where disadvantaged learners with eye problems had their eyes tested for free. 140 of them received free spectacles to assist with some of their reading challenges.
|Childline SA partnership||Over 100 children|
This partnership allowed the facilitation of specialised care and counselling for over 100 abused kids from four schools
