Kimberley Airport is located approximately 7km south of the city centre. The airport underwent major refurbishment and upgrade in preparation of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
The airport is located on the urban edge and has been identified as one of the development nodes within the Sol Plaatjie Spatial Development Framework (SDF).
There is currently a keen interest from the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development to facilitate the development of a Diamond hub on approximately 55Ha of land that has been earmarked and made available for this kind of development. The proposed development will also form part of the Industrial Development Zone that has been proposed and tabled by the department.
The airport will also be undertaking the development of a 5MW Solar PV Installation over an area measuring approximately 10Ha. The development will allow for the resale of electricity into the commercial grid.
In future, the Gateway precinct of the airport will be enabled. The area is envisaged to yield a total lettable area of approximately 4.9Ha. This area is earmarked to accommodate the expansion of the current general aviation area and other commercial uses.
Property sites at the airport offer the same key advantages as those of the larger Airports Company South Africa airports:
Extremely convenient access to road and rail transport, the CBD and industrial areas. Kimberley is a compact city, and travel time is never more than a few minutes.
Proximity to the airport itself, allowing executives to fly in and do business on the spot, the sites are ideal for tenants requiring air cargo services.
Maximum property flexibility. Airports Company South Africa customises its developments to tenants’ optimal requirements, in turn helping to ensure the greatest long-term returns.
