New developments

New projects have come online and handed over to the public to use.  These include;

Road Network

The airport’s road network begins with the Airport Approach Road turn off from the N2 Highway.

The Approach Road leads to Ring Road.

Ring Road splits into four lanes and flows as follows:

Lane 1 : Elevated Roadway (Drop and Go)

Lane 2 : Parkade 1

Lane 3 & 4: Central Boulevard, which has turn offs into:
  • Parkade 2 (on left hand side)
  • Transport Plaza (on left hand side)
  • Car Rentals (on right hand side)
  • Shaded parking (on right hand side)

The road network includes an elevated roadway that allows passengers to be dropped off directly to the second floor (check in area).  The elevated roadway is a one way road which runs from North to South.
Further, the Transport Plaza houses the MyCiti buses (public transport between the airport and the city centre) and metered taxis.

Domestic and International Arrival links

The growth of the airport has necessitated the separation of all departing and arriving passengers.  All passengers will depart Cape Town International Airport from the 2nd floor and all arriving passengers will use the ground floor.

There are passage- ways linking the two arrivals terminals with the Central Terminal Building.

The international arrivals section for all meters and greeters remains the same with the only addition of a passage way connecting the arrivals hall with the Central Terminal Building and easy access to the ground floor retail offering.

The domestic arrivals section has been completely revamped with all passengers moving through the baggage collection area first and then use the passage way to the Central Terminal Building’s ground floor area.

The meters and greeters section for domestic arrivals is situated in the Central Terminal Building at the end of the domestic arrivals link.

Centralised car rentals

All car rental facilities have moved to a central location for easier and quicker access.

The car rental facilities are situated in front of the Transport Plaza and Central Terminal Building.  Access to the facility is gained from two pedestrian subways that are placed on either side of the terminal building.  Pedestrians no longer have to cross any busy roadways to gain access.

The subways allow access to the car rental facilities as well as the shaded parking facilities.

Transport plaza

The transport plaza houses the station for the MyCiti buses and has parking space available for the metered taxis.

The plaza is situated in front of the Central Terminal Building and is easily accessible from the ground floor.
