Johannesburg, 5 February 2014 – O.R. Tambo International
Airport is proud to announce its association with this year’s annual Joburg Open
in partnership with the City of Joburg.
The international golf tournament, which is in its eighth year of existence,
attracts 30 000 visitors and 210 professional golfers. The tournament is set to
raise the bar even higher this year as it has been elected as a qualifying
tournament in the newly announced qualifying series into The Open
Championship.
“The Joburg Open always presents great opportunities for our province and
equally for us as an airport community”, said Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, O.R. Tambo
International Airport’s Manager for Communications and Brand Management.
The number of visitors into the City of Joburg also boosts various small and
big business enterprises - from accommodation, transport, retail and dining
outlets - during the four-day event.
“As always, O.R. Tambo International Airport is honoured to have acclaimed
golfers of this calibre being facilitated through our world-class airport
infrastructure”, added Batyashe-Fillis.
The event will also be used as a fundraising platform for the Nelson Mandela
Children’s Hospital.
The Joburg Open, which will be broadcast in 68 countries, takes place at the
Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club from 6-9 February 2014.
