Johannesburg, 6 December 2013 – As Airports Company South Africa extends its condolences to the nation following the passing of former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the company has expressed its commitment to ensuring the highest level of passenger facilitation for those traveling to South Africa and within the country to pay their last respects.

Airports Company South Africa has assured the public that it has measures in place to handle any possible influx of visitors, such as heads of states, who come into the country during this time. Normal major event processes will be activated at O.R. Tambo International and East London Airports.

“Given our expertise at managing significant increases in local and international passenger numbers, we are confident that we will maintain the highest level of service to passengers during this time of mourning,” said Ms Busisiwe Mabuza, Chairman of Airports Company South Africa.

“Engagements between our airports, airlines, ground handling companies, government and law enforcement agencies are underway to ensure smooth processing”, Mabuza added.

The company appealed to the public for understanding and support as the airports endeavour to continue delivering world-class services throughout this difficult time.

Airports Company South Africa will communicate any relevant impact on its services via its website, customer care line and the media.
