Team SA’s send-off at O.R Tambo International Airport
Hundreds of South African supporters gathered at O.R. Tambo International
Airport today to bid the 2012 SA Olympic Team farewell. 140 Olympic qualifying
athletes led by their mascot as well as team managers were greeted with cheers
from fans at the International Trade Bureau (ITB) at O.R Tambo International
Airport. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Security and Safety departments in
partnership with the Airports SAPS assisted in the seamless facilitation process
to the 2012 London Olympics. “As an international airport we are always ready to
assist with events of this nature which are of national significance. Being part
of this event gives us great pride and we are excited to be the prime location
for Team SA’s send-off,” explains Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, ACSA’s Communications
and Brand Manager at O.R. Tambo International Airport. Team Manager for
track and field sport codes and ex-Olympiad, Hezekiel Sepeng said, “The team is
extremely upbeat and seeing the country supporting the team is motivating. The
team will do their best and looks forward to a warm welcome upon its
return.” Following a press briefing at the ITB, O.R Tambo International Airport in
conjunction with Lead SA hosted VIPS and fans at one of its viewing decks where
the special SAA Olympic plane could be viewed. O.R Tambo International Airport
also converted its prime parking space into a fan park for the many fans who
wished to showcase their support for Team SA. For More Information Contact: Unathi Batyashe-Fillis Manager: Communication and Brand Management O.R.
