George Airport

George Airport is located at the heart of the Western Cape’s Garden Route; a fashionable holiday destination and home to many of South Africa’s most affluent residents. Consequently, commercial and residential development in George and its surrounds is practically unsurpassed in South Africa.

The airport is the transport and distribution hub of the entire region and is conveniently situated on the N2 highway just a few kilometres from the town. Serviced by main roads and rail links, the airport handles over 600,000 passengers a year and plays a central role in the region’s tourist economy.

Property

Approximately 1.8Ha has been enabled, serviced, zoned and received environmental authorisation for two developments situated on the Gateway Precinct on the north eastern corner of the airport. The first would be the development of a petrol service station over an area measuring approximately 0.5 Ha with a maximum capacity of 250m³ of fuel. The second is the development of a 70 bed hotel and conference facility over an area measuring approximately 0.6Ha. Both these projects will be marketed through a request for proposal process in the year 15/16.

There will be a future additional 6Ha available for development on the southern side of the R102 of the airport. The area is envisaged to accommodate light industrial mixed uses or aviation related commercial activity.

Key features include:

  • Close proximity to the airport: Ideal for tenants who require air cargo services, it also allows clients and key executives to fly in for business meetings quickly and conveniently.

  • Immediate access to the road network: The site is on the Cape Town side of George itself and has direct access to the N2 highway, the principal coastal highway. Road access will improve still further with the building of the proposed new highway between Oudtshoorn and George.

  • Excellent visibility: The site can be clearly seen from the N2 highway, a powerful competitive advantage for retail developers.

  • Maximum flexibility: Tenants can specify requirements for optimum operating efficiency to maximise investment returns.
