11 March 2015 - The countdown to this year’s Airports
Company South Africa Wheelchair Tennis Open has started with local media
personalities participating in a fun-filled wheelchair tennis game against
wheelchair tennis players at O.R. Tambo International Airport today. Media personalities including Udo Caresle (Talk Radio 702), Vaylen Kirtley
(Morning Live), Themba Tshabalala (Jozi FM) and Thomas Mlambo (Sports@10) - came out to demonstrate their support
for wheelchair tennis by participating in this year’s Wheelchair Tennis Ability
Challenge. It was a close call for all involved but the Jozi FM team were the
ultimate winners when they beat Sports@10 in the
final. The Airports Company South Africa Wheelchair Tennis Open will be held from 14
- 18 April at the Ellis Park Tennis Centre. Airports Company South Africa has been a sponsor of Wheelchair Tennis South
Africa (WTSA) since 2004. The partnership started at the time when the sport had
a handful of players and today WTSA boasts over 500 players in 50 locations
across the country. This is in line with the company’s long-standing commitment
to improving lives of people with disabilities. Airports Company South Africa
has a long history of enhancing the integration of people with disabilities into
society through occupational and emotional support, provision of physical
support systems, infrastructure improvement and skills development, education
and awareness. “Airports Company South Africa is passionate about making a difference. Our
Socio-economic Development strategy is in line with the business aspiration of
moving people and changing lives. In collaboration with Wheelchair Tennis South
Africa, we will continue to champion the cause of wheelchair tennis and support
them as they prepare for the 2016 Paralympic games,” says Airports Company South

anchored on three areas that are directly affected by its operations – ability,
community development and care for the environment. Airports Company South Africa is also a sponsor of the popular Outeniqua
