Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is proud to announce that George Airport and King Phalo Airport have officially been awarded the Airports Council International (ACI) Public Health & Safety Readiness Accreditation.
This milestone increases the number of accredited ACSA airports to six, signalling a significant step forward in the company’s mission to align South African aviation with the highest global safety benchmarks. The next step in the roadmap is to secure Public Health & Safety Readiness Accreditation for the three remaining airports over the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial periods. This strategic rollout ensures full compliance and operational excellence in alignment with Vision 2029 goals.
Strengthening the National Aviation Network
The ACI accreditation is a rigorous validation of an airport’s ability to manage public health crises. By securing this status, George and King Phalo airports demonstrate they are equipped with industry-leading protocols to protect passengers against current and future health risks.
This achievement follows the successful re-accreditation of ACSA’s four major international hubs, which have maintained their certified status since 2024:
•O.R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA)
•King Shaka International Airport (KSIA)
•Cape Town International Airport (CTIA)
•Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (CDSIA)
A Vision for 2029
In early 2024, ACSA implemented a comprehensive framework to standardize health and safety excellence across its portfolio. This initiative is a cornerstone of the company’s long-term strategy: to have all ACSA-managed airports accredited by the 2028/29 financial year. "The accreditation of these additional airports reflects ACSA’s unwavering commitment to health and safety excellence across our entire network, regardless of an airport's size or traffic volume," says Fani Mphaphuli, ACSA Acting Group Executive: Operations Management."I commend the teams at George and King Phalo for their dedication. Our priority remains the well-being of our passengers, ensuring that every facility under our care is a safe and resilient gateway for travel."
About the Accreditation
The ACI Public Health & Safety Readiness Accreditation provides airports with an objective assessment of their health management systems.
