Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport has for the
third consecutive year been awarded the first place ranking in the Best Airport
by Region: Africa category as part of Airports Council International’s 2012 ASQ
Awards. Upington Airport scooped best Airport by region serving fewer than 2
million passengers. Also, in the Best Airport in Africa category, sister airport Durban scooped
second place followed by Cairo, Mauritius and Johannesburg respectively. “We are
delighted with this achievement. Winning this award year on year should not be
underestimated. Last year we were also inducted into the Airport Council
International Director General’s Roll of Excellence; this for the airport’s
exceptional achievements in the Airport Service Quality surveys conducted over
the past five years,” says Deidre Davids Communications Manager, Airports
Company South Africa: Cape Town International Airport. Since its commencement in 2006, the ASQ Awards have become a world leading
airport passenger satisfaction benchmark with over 200 airports participating in
over 50 countries. It is interview based and has been scientifically designed to
provide a statistically accurate reflection of service levels in an airport.
Every month, at all participating airports, departing passengers are interviewed
at the gate while the experience is fresh in their minds. All the airports use
the same questionnaire and follow the same methodology while taking into
consideration each airport’s uniqueness with regards to its traffic throughput
to ensure comparable results. In the 2012 surveys, the airport improved its score for the waiting time in
the check in queues, for the waiting time at passport control as well as the
commendable courteousness and helpfulness of the staff working in both areas.
“Delivering an excellent customer experience is an ongoing focus for Cape Town
International Airport and its airport community. So this award belongs to all
the men and women who every day do their best in delivering a positive airport
experience. It feels good to have our efforts acknowledged,” added Davids. The award ceremony, a platform to acknowledge top performing airports across
the world, will take place on 11 June 2013 during the ACI Europe/World Annual
Congress and Exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey. To continue to provide us with your feedback please visit www.airports.co.za and click on contact us
