NOTICE OF EMERGENCY SIMULATION EXERCISE AT O.R. TAMBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

17 November 2014, Johannesburg – O.R. Tambo International Airport will embark on an emergency simulation exercise this week to test the airport’s preparedness for major scale incidents. This exercise is in line with mandatory aviation and/or airport requirements to test the airport’s readiness.

Conducted in partnership with one of the airlines that operate from O.R. Tambo International Airport, the emergency simulation exercise will involve various emergency response resources. The participants are not informed of the date of the exercise in order to test their level of readiness in real life.

The airport is required to conduct an emergency simulation at least every two years to test the level of readiness of the emergency facilities, including those of the airlines operating out of O.R Tambo International Airport. The airport takes this mandatory exercise very seriously to make sure that it is adequately prepared for any crisis.

O.R. Tambo International advises that all questions related to an emergency at the airport during the week of 17 November 2014 are aligned to the airports emergency exercise. The safety measures that will be simulated will not be made public in the interests of safeguarding the integrity and confidentiality of the exercises.

We urge you to advise your colleagues of this advisory.
