Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) will participate in the forthcoming BRICS Business Council Annual General Meeting (AGM), taking place from 17 to 20 October 2024 in Moscow, Russia.
This year’s annual meeting is taking place under the theme “The BRICS Partnership: Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security.” It is expected that delegates from the BRICS plus countries will outline mechanisms to deepen trade between member states and facilitate the bloc's emergence as a significant player in the global investment, trade, and geopolitical environment.
The BRICS Business Council AGM will be preceded by a series of Working Group meetings, including one on Transport and Logistics Working Group.
As the Chairperson of the BRICS Aviation Working Group, ACSA CEO Ms Mpumi Mpofu will lead the South African aviation delegation with the mandate to promote the country’s aviation sector, enhance cooperation amongst members states and engage with relevant authorities on the primary objectives of the Aviation Working Group.
The Aviation Working Group is primarily focused on initiatives to improve air connectivity between the BRICS Countries and their regions. This incorporates initiatives to strengthen the various elements in the aviation value chain including airport infrastructure, aircraft manufacturing, aircraft servicing, technical training and related industries.
In this regard, South African aviation delegation will continue to advocate for improved air connectivity between the BRICS countries and their regions, and push for the establishment of a Multilateral Air Service Agreement (MASA). Such an agreement would serve as a catalyst to grow tourism, trade, and investment amongst BRICS members states.
Chairman of the BRICS Council and President of the Russian Federation’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Sergey Katyrin, as well as Russian Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Anton Alikhanov, are expected to address delegates on the opening day, Thursday, 17 October 2024.
